Zero Girl Dropout in Assam Schools

The Assam Government's flagship initiative 'Nijut Moina' aimed at upliftment of women reduced child marriages & enabled education for a large number of girls.

Assam has achieved zero dropout rate among girls across higher secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate education, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam.This was possible through the Nijut Moina scheme which benefitted 3,50,256 students, This helped increased enrolment of girl students. The Nijut Moina scheme has curbed child marriage and nearly 7000 individuals were arrested in a crackdown against such practices. 

The Chief Minister announced that from November 15, all students appearing for matriculation exams will receive Rs 300 per month to buy books and educational materials. The scheme will also expand to cover girls in Degree 3rd Year, 5th Semester, and those enroled in polytechnic and ITI institutes.
