Odisha: Overcoming Challenges, Reforming Education

Odisha, implementing NEP, faces the double challenge of a lack of teachers and a rise in dropout rates in high schools, even as new initiatives give hope.

Odisha State has announced initiatives to reform school education to reduce dropout rates in high schools. The dropout rate rose to 15% in classes IX and X during the 2024-25 academic year. Boys had a higher dropout rate of 17.3%, and girls 12.5%. The learning outcomes have been affected by the lack of teachers and infrastructure, with 90,000 teacher vacancies lying unfilled.
