Children exhibit some basic qualities of patience and sharing as early as 3 to 6 years. Such children will wait for their turn, standing in line and sharing food, books, or stationery with other children, according to Ms Anupama Mehra, Principal of Navy Children School, Dabolim, Goa. She was giving a presentation on the topic, "Spotting Leadership Traits in Students: A Principal's Perspective," at the 132nd Pallikkutam Global Connect, held online on December 26, 2025.
Gen Alpha and Beta may possess research, language, and writing skills and excel in intellectual leadership. However, it is unrealistic to expect all the leadership qualities in one child. Principals and teachers must identify two or three strong traits and nurture them. Schools must provide diverse opportunities such as singing, sports, speaking, writing, and creative arts.
Mentors must be able to identify small actions that indicate potential. "Leadership in children is about spotting sparks early, nurturing them through opportunities and creating a culture of multi-skill development.
