The world has spent decades trying to make education inclusive, yet exclusion remains a defining reality. In 2024, 273 million children, adolescents and young people were out of school, about one in six of the world’s school-age population. Exclusion also persists within schools, where physical, psychological, cognitive, social and financial barriers restrict meaningful participation.
