Number of Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi language speakers outnumber those living within the home state, according to a study published by Chinmay Tumbe, Professor of Economics at IIM Hyderabad in Sociological Bulletin. The paper uses data from the 2001 and 2011 census to estimate domestic diaspora for major Indian languages.
