Tripura Girls Get Free Sanitary Napkins
The Tripura Government has approved a proposal to provide free sanitary napkins to all girls from class VIth to XIIth. State Education Minister Ratanlal Nath informed that the initiative was to enhance female menstrual hygiene. A total of 1,68,252 students shall be covered under this new scheme called ‘Kishori Suchita Abhiyan’. They will be distributed free napkins every month. This will involve an investment of Rs 3,61,63,248 from the state’s exchequer during a period of three years It was reported in many states that a large number of girls fail to attend classes regularly or drop out of school due to lack of sanitary napkins or separate toilet facilities. Also, students will not be asked to bring any additional books, extra materials to the school.
