Singapore for More Home Based Learning

Teacher Insights

Singapore schools will continue to have home-based learning routines for schools even in the post Covid-era. Even as online learning is not a substitute for class learning, it still encourages more independent and self-directed learning, which is sustainable for a life time. Ong Ye Kung, Education Minister of Singapore in a television address pointed out that due to the pandemic, teachers, students and parents went through an unexpected crash course in home based learning.   And online learning should complement classroom learning in future. Students should go through the curriculum themselves, read and explore topics outside the curriculum too. To ensure every home has the right devices and internet connectivity, Singapore Government has also launched the National Digital Literacy Programme under which all students will get a personal learning device.
