Raj Mashruwala Establishes CfHE Vagbhata Chair in Medical Devices at IITH

Rajesh Mashruwala, founder of TIBCO Software and an angel investor has instituted the CfHE Vagbhata Chair Professorship in Medical Devices and Diagnostics at IIT Hyderabad (IITH). Prof B S Murty, Director, IITH said that the Chair Professorship will be a golden opportunity for bringing eminent national and international faculty and and industry leaders to collaborate with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at IITH with a focused vision to strengthen this area, develop new courses and programs, and attract new faculty, visiting faculty, international grants, etc. Raj Mashruwala is also one of the co-founders along with Avi Nash Manudhane of Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE) at IITH.

Raj Mashruwala is deeply passionate about contributing back to the Indian Medical and health technology Ecosystem. Along with Avi Nash Manudhane, he established the Center for Healthcare Entrepreneurship (CfHE) at IITH to develop innovative medical Devices and start-ups. With this Chair Professorship, Raj Mashruwala aims to translate healthcare ideas like Noninvasive diagnostics, Point of Care devices, and clinical trials of portable devices to address the last mile in healthcare delivery to rural India in Medical Devices & Diagnostics and help accelerate our journey to becoming world leaders in this field. 

 Medical Devices and Diagnostics is one of the key areas of healthcare where a considerable gap exists in the supply of devices, trained workforce, and indigenous development. With a vision for Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has taken bold steps in addressing this gap through Focused programs in Medical Devices, Development of Human Resources, and Promotion of start-ups for indigenous development of medical devices and innovations. The Center of Excellence, established in partnership with the Medical Devices Mission Secretariat, ICMR, has enabled IITH to be one of the Hubs for technological Excellence in Medical Devices in India.

Rajesh Mashruwala (Raj) is an Executive Vice President at TIBCO Software Inc., a leading provider of real-time infrastructure software for the Internet and enterprise. Raj holds a Master of Science (Engineering) from the University of California, Berkeley (1976) and a BTech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay (1975). TIBCO Software, founded in 1997, made its initial public offering in July of 1999 (TIBX). Since the founding of TIBCO Software, Raj has been responsible for worldwide engineering, marketing, acquisitions, and field operations. He is also an angel investor and partner Emeritus at Prime Venture.
