National Teachers Award 2018 Winners and How They Achieved it

The National Teachers Award were
conferred on 46 teachers across the country on September 5, 2019 by Shri Ram
Nath Kovind, the President of India in the presence of Ramesh Pokhriyal
'Nishank', Union Minister for Human Resources Development and Sanjay Dhotre,
Minister of State for HRD.
Here is the list of award winners
and what they did to achieve the award-
1). Haryana -Shri Rajesh Kumar Hindi TeacherGovernment Senior Secondary School,
Mohanpur, Bawal, Distt Rewari, Haryana
Shri Rajesh Kumar has developed a
Hindi room in the school and deployed innovative and activity based methods to
teach the language. He has also significantly contributed to the enhancement of
enrolment in the school. Shri Kumar has adopted two toilet blocks in the
school, which he cleans himself, to demonstrate the importance of cleanliness
to students. He has also mobilized the local community to improve school
infrastructure.
2.)Himachal Pradesh -Shri Vikas
Mahajan Principal Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Chamba, Himachal
Pradesh
Shri Vikas Mahajan has taken many
initiatives including renovation of the school building, mobilizing the alumni
and community for making contributions to provide uniforms to the economically
weaker students and for providing free coaching to aspirants for various
entrance tests. He has also taken steps to increase enrolment in the school.
3) Jammu & Kashmir-Shri Gurnam Singh Master
Government Upper Primary School Lahari, Barnoti, Distt Kathua, Jammu &
Kashmir
Shri Gurnam Singh has focussed on
all-round development of students. He has made personal efforts to arrange
school bags, uniforms and track-suits for the poor students. It was through his
efforts that a site for the construction of school building was donated. He
sensitizes students on environmental conservation and has carried out an extensive plantation programmes and Swachh
Bharat Abhiyan activities. He has trained over 1000 teachers in various aspects
of school management and teaching.
4). Punjab- Shri Amarjit Singh
Science Master Government Senior Secondary
School, Ranghrial, Budhlada, Mansa, Punjab
Shri Amarjit Singh has introduced
the ICT and smart classroom concepts in several schools where he has worked,.
Because of his efforts, the dropout rate and absenteeism have reduced
significantly in his schools. He has authored books on environment and also
developed e-content for primary classes. He has contributed in the setting up
4500 smart schools in Punjab.
5) Rajasthan- Dr. (Smt.) Kalpana
Sharma,Principal Swami Vivekanand Government Model School, Banera, Bhilwara, Rajasthan
Dr (Smt.) Kalpana Sharma has
mobilized the local community to donate land for the school. She has developed
smart class rooms in the school. She has authored books on Biology for class XI
of the Rajasthan State Education Board. She has been instrumental in developing
a herbal, nutritional garden as well as facilities for waste management in the
school.
6). Madhya Pradesh -Dr. Lalit Mehta
Teacher Government Higher Secondary School of Excellence, Sagod Road, Ratlam,
Madhya Pradesh
To enhance enrolment and reduce
drop out rate, Dr Lalit Mehta has effectively used electronic media and through
discussions with parents. He has developed ICT material in science which he
made available on social media for free use by students. He has also organized
science fairs. He is a resource person at the district level.
7). Uttar Pradesh- Shri Ashutosh
Anand Assistant Teacher Upper Primary School, Miyanganj,
Dariyabad, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh
Shri Ashutosh Anand teaches
science through innovative and and easy to set up experiments. He is a member of the SCERT team for writing
text books, e-books and for e-content development. His articles have been
published in journals. He motivates
students to take up social work and build community assets.
8) Uttarakhand- Shri Ramesh Prasad
Badoni ,Lecturer (Physics) Government Inter College, Misraspatti, Sahaspur, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Shri Ramesh Prasad Badoni is a national-level ICT mentor for state
schools and works closely with CIET (NCERT). He is a member and resource person
for Bal Kalyan Parishad, Uttarakhand, which
looks after welfare and scientific development of kids from
underprevileged backgrounds. He is also a resource person for activity-based
learning and development of integrated labs.
9). Delhi- Shri Devendra Kumar Vice
Principal, Shaheed Bhai Bal Mukund
Government Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Shankaracharya Marg, Zone Seven, North Delhi,
Delhi
Shri Devendra Kumar has promoted
innovation in science education. He has written books to explain the basics of
Physics. He has introduced ICT based innovations through different social media
platforms, television and print media. He has created interactive software and
low cost teaching aids for science. He has made efforts to motivate community
to support their school through donation of educational material,
infrastructure and services. He has conducted national integration camps.
10). Daman & Diu- Shri Virendra
Shantubhai Patel ,Incharge Head Master,Government Upper Primary School
Bhimpore Ashramshala, Bhimpore, Nani Daman, Daman, Daman & Diu
Shri. Virendra Shantubhai Patel has taken the initiative to use e-content for teaching-learning activities. Every classroom in his school has internet facility. He has set up a School Nutrition Garden with the help of local villagers. His school has been declared a model school for the region.
11). Goa-- Dr. (Smt.) R.C. Suvarna
Fonseca Teacher Carmel Higher Secondary,
Majorda, Nuvem, South Goa, Goa
Dr. R. C. Suvarna Fonseca e Antao
uses ICT based innovations and teaching and learning methods with hands on
activities. She is a qualified homeopath and uses her medical skill to provide
treatment to needy children. She has developed counselling techniques to help
students manage time effectively and to develop positive life-skills. She leads
the Red Cross unit in the school. She has made immense efforts to generate
awareness on environment and health.
12). Maharashtra -Dr. Amol Subhash Bagul Assistant Teacher Shri Samarth Vidya
Mandir, Prashala Sawedi,
Ahmednagar, Maharashtra
Dr. Amol Subhash Bagul has successfully mobilized
funds for the procurement of ICT material and hardware for the school. He has
prepared many educational videos. He has taken up several cocurricular
activities in the school including NASA Kids club and Microsoft classrooms. He
has developed innovative practices and methodologies for physical education
programmes such as use of e-content for yoga and outdoor games.
13). Andhra
Pradesh- Shri Battu Suresh Kumar Gazetted
Head Master Gr. II Zilla Parishad High School, Nidamanuru ,Vijayawada Rural
Mandal, Krishna, Andhra Pradesh Shri Battu Suresh Kumar has successfully
mobilized the community for improving enrolment, school infrastructure and
setting up of smart classrooms. He has contributed to the development of
e-content at the state level and promoted the use of ICT for improving
teaching-learning. He has encouraged teachers to participate in professional
development programmes and updating their teaching methods with innovative
pedagogic approaches.
14). Telangana -Ms. Bendi Asha Rani School Assistant English
Zilla Parishad High School Jeedimetla, Quthbullapur, Medchal-Malkajgiri,
Telangana Ms. Bendi Asha Rani, has contributed to setting up smart classrooms
in her school and for the development of e-content. She has developed
innovative methods for teaching communicative English among teachers. She has
authored three English textbooks.
15). Karnataka -Shri Shashi Kumar B.S. Assistant
Master Government High School Yelekyathanahalli, Nelamangala, Bangalore Rural,
Karnataka Shri Shashikumar B.S. has developed school infrastructure through
donations from NGOs and the community. He has set up smart classrooms and has
developed e-content He is a State Resource Person for training teachers of
science and computer science across the state. He contributes to radio
programme and has developed teacher training modules. He has created a 'school
wiki' for the benefit of students.
16) Karnataka -Shri Suresha Marakala Assistant
Teacher Government High School, Besur,Somwarpet, Kodagu, Karnataka Shri. Suresh
Marakala has developed innovative ways of teaching through a programme named
„Jeevan Shikshan‟. He imparted Gandhiji‟s Basic
Education concepts to the students through enjoyable activities. He has
published Poems, Short-Stories and Articles in state level newspapers &
journals. He teaches social science through activities including plumbing and
mask-making.
17). Bihar -Shri Pappu Harijan Head Master Upgraded Middle
School Kulhariya, Aminpur, Amarpur, Banka, Bihar
Shri Pappu Harijan has guided the
school towards academic and co-curricular achievements in a sustained manner.
He focuses on development of scientific temper among students. He has created
interest in local cultural activities among students who in-turn have
represented the state in national level cultural competitions. The
co-curricular activities promoted by him include kitchen garden, sports, yoga
and tree plantation. He has written and directed school plays. He arranges
debates on socially important themes. He has engaged consistently with the
community to increase enrolment and to reduce dropout rate, particularly of
girl students.
18) Chhattisgarh- Smt. Seema
Chaturvedi ,Head Mistress, Government Middle School
Syahimudi , Katghora, Korba, Chhattisgarh
Smt. Seema Chaturvedi has
mobilized community support for the establishment of a computer lab and a smart
class in the school. She has led the overall development of the school as a
well regarded institution resulting in movement of students from private
schools to the government school headed by her.
19).Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti -Shri P. Rajesh Principal Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Udmari, Kalaigaon, Darrang, Assam
Shri Rajesh has strived to provide a joyful and energetic atmosphere in the school. He has developed e-content for the teaching of Economics at the higher secondary stage. He has actively organized seminars, workshops, and sports activities for the holistic development of children.
20) Tamil Nadu- Dr. M. Mansoor Ali B T Assistant Diamond Jubilee Higher Secondary School, Gobichettipalayam, Erode, Tamil Nadu
Dr. Mansoor Ali has been practicing innovative teaching through dramatics and adoption of joyful learning experiences. He has encouraged students to take up tree plantation on a large scale. He has made the school eco-friendly, clean and green.
21)Tamil Nadu -Shri Selvakkannan R. Head Master Panchayat Union Primary School, K Paramathi, Karur, Tamil Nadu
Shri Selvakkannan has successfully mobilized the local community for improving school infrastructure including the setting up of smart classrooms. He transformed the school into a green campus and has developed a herbal garden. He has arranged for the teaching of yoga, music etc by making use of locally available experts in the field.
22) Kerala Shri Mahesh Kumar M. P.D. Teacher Government Lower Primary School, Cheriyakkara, Kayyur, Nileshwar, Kasaragod, Kerala
Shri Kumar‟s
constant efforts have led to a substantial increase in enrolment. By involving
the local community, he has converted the school in to a place of joyful
learning. He has deployed a Mobile App
„Know my child‟, for day to day interaction with parents on
the progress made by the children. He himself drives the school bus gifted by
the alumni.
23) Puducherry- Shri S. Sasikumar Primary School Teacher Pavendhar Bharathidhasan
Government Primary School, Koonichampet, Villianur, Puducherry
Shri Sasikumar has helped
mobilize adequate funds to improve school infrastructure including smart
classroom, library, playground, additional classrooms, dining hall, kitchen,
audio visual hall, hand wash area and toilet blocks. His engagement with the
local community has resulted in substantial increase in the enrolment. He has
been instrumental in establishing a child-friendly Library for the primary
level. He has been the brain behind establishment of an effective social audit
system for the school.
24 ).Gujarat- Shri Anandkumar Babu

Concerted efforts by Shri Anand
Kumar have resulted in increase in enrollment in the school. He has promoted
sports and yoga among the students. He has created special text books for
students so as to reduce the weight of the school bag. He has developed a
school garden. He has introduced health cards for all children.
25). Gujarat- Ms. Kanchan Khodabhai Pandya, Assistant Teacher ,Mamtamandir Vidyamandir Palanpur, Banaskantha, Gujarat
Smt Kanchanben K. Pandya is a teacher in a school for the hearing-impaired. She has built effective liaison with parents and the community to support the development of the children. She has guided students to achieve success, by encouraging their participation in various state-level events. She strives to make the teaching-learning process more interesting in the class through use of sports and other co-curricular activities.
26) Lakshadweep- Dr. Abdul Hakeem, Assistant Head Master ,Shaheed Jawan Muthukoya Memorial
Govt Senior Secondary School, Amini, Lakshadweep
Dr Abdul Hakeem has been involved
in launching of e-class room, English living camp and happy reading and review
initiatives. He has guided students for participating in National Science
Congress. He has created an effective digital learning environment in his
school.
27)Andaman & Nicobar Islands -Dr. Bency Joy Graduate Trained Teacher Government Middle School, Kinmai, Car Nicobar, Nicobar, Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Dr. Bency Joy has been instrumental in developing a model for effective classroom which lays emphasis on integrating different aspects. He has established a Mathematics Club in the school. He has also inculcated among students the love of nature through Eco Clubs. Dr Joy is actively involved in the psychometric testing and psychological counselling program of students.

published research papers on innovative teaching methods. E-content developed
by him has been broadcast to a large number of schools.

Shri Bijay Kumar Pandey has
introduced innovative practices to impart English Language Communication skills
in an enjoyable manner. He has also taken initiatives to streamline academic
administration & curriculum management. He is a state level resource person
for NDA-cum-career orientation. He has been a mentor for cleanliness programmes
and has also organized health checkup camps for NCC cadets.
30) CTSA Smt. Reeta Bali TGT Central School for Tibetans,
Herbertpur, Vikas Nagar, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
Ms. Reeta Bali has consistently
achieved 100% result during the last five years by making science learning
joyful through the use of innovative techniques. She guided students to develop
an app for those with hearing and speech impairment. She promotes teaching of
Hindi language and organises an environmental Olympiad. She played a key role
in developing a herbal garden in the school.
31) Arunachal Pradesh-Shri Toni Pertin Vice Principal,Government Higher Secondary School Dambuk, Lower Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh
Shri Tony Pertin has successfully
mobilized the local community for improving school infrastructure. He has
developed a child-centric time table in the school. He has focused on improving
school infrastructure, increasing enrollment, reduction of drop-out and
betterment of school results.

mobilized community support for enhancing enrolment among girls in a remote and

level sports competitions. He has effectively used mother nature as an ally in
teaching.
34 ).Sikkim --Dr. (Smt.) Hannah

As a Principal, Dr. Hannah Yonzan
has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and has transformed the school

Shri Maji has worked with
dedication to improve the infrastructure in his school through community
participation. He has been involved in establishment of a science laboratory,
smart classrooms and a computer room. He has also laid emphasis on
co-curricular activities
36) Meghalaya -Smt. Bakordor W. Bannett Principal Pariong Presbytery

Ms Bannett has innovatively
deployed effective teaching strategies, zero budget teaching learning
materials, Rubrics, Formative Assessment etc. for improved learning outcomes.
She has mobilized community support for improving school infrastructure, arranging guest lectures,
improving ICT/ Computer facilities and for financial assistance for needy
students.
37) Odisha- Shri Pabitra Mohan Dash ,Assistant Teacher ,Project Upper Primary School

To improve enrollment and reduce
drop out rate, Shri Pabitra Mohan Dash has successfully mobilized the local
community to donate land for the school playground. Demonstrating outstanding
leadership qualities, he developed computer lab, herbal garden, nutrition
garden and rock garden for joyful learning of Maths, Science and Language. He
has also introduced an innovative and interactive method to promote morality,
truthfulness and kindness among students.
38). Nagaland --Shri Satyen Kumar Roy Teacher

Mokokchung, Nagaland As a teacher for over 25 years, Shri Roy successfully
developed positive attitude towards joyful learning of mathematics among
students. His efforts have led to increase in the enrollment in the school.
39). Tripura- Smt. Anamika Deb Barma Head Mistress
Bijoykumar Girls HS School, Agartala, Sadar, West Tripura, Tripura Smt. Anamika
Deb Barma has been actively involved in enhancing enrolment. She has made
effective usage of Teaching Learning Materials in classroom interactions. She
has taken initiatives like “Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan”, admission fair,
vocational classes, reading corner etc.
40)West Bengal- Dr. Subhas Chandra

Dr. Datta resolved not only the
long pending issue of an encroached playground, but also successfully renovated
the school building and other infrastructure with the help of the community. He
has published several research papers and articles on Education, Health,
Environment & Food security. His
innovations include use of school building as a learning aid, birds‟ nests in
the school banyan tree, biodiversity box etc. He has developed the concept of “Idea Board” to tap
the creative spirit of the children.
41) Jharkhand-- Smt. Sandhya Pradhan ,Head Master In Charge, Oriya MS Adityapur, Adityapur,
Gamharia, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Jharkhand
Ms. Pradhan has developed books
in Odia language with illustrations drawn by her own students and this has
resulted in substantial increase in enrolment with a negligible drop out rate.
She has made efforts to develop school infrastructure with all modern
amenities. She has also developed a Terrace Garden in the school. She has
effectively used the Peer Group Learning to enrich the classroom transactions
to improve the learning outcomes.
42). CBSE-- Smt. Manju Rana Principal Seth Anandram Jaipuria
School, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh
Smt. Manju Rana promotes
creativity, environmental sensitivity and academic excellence among students.
She believes in inculcating the spirit of lifelong learning with the use of
innovative teaching learning practices through dedicated reading corners, use
of technology, music in education and encouraging sports etc. She has taken
several ecologically positive measures in school including rain water
harvesting, vermi composting and waste paper recycling.
43) CBSE- Smt. Vineeta Garg PGT Computer Science SRDAV Public School, East Delhi,
Delhi
Smt. Vineeta Garg has prepared
e-content like teaching videos, blogs, android apps, animation videos and
interactive content. She has also designed audio visual books for students with
special needs. Her low-cost innovative teaching aids and integration of
performing arts especially music have made the learning joyful..Her “Robotics
For All” campaign has helped to create interest in Science, Maths and Computers
among young students including those with special needs or from underprivileged
backgrounds.
44). Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan -Smt. Iyer Revathy Rajaram, PGT Kendriya Vidyalaya, MEG,
Sivanchetty, Bengaluru, Karnataka
Mrs. Iyer has developed e-content
for teaching Hindi at the higher secondary stage. She was a key member in the
development of Simple Teacher Friendly calendar for continuous and
comprehensive evaluation. She is a convener for class X & XII Study
Material and a Master trainer for class VI New textbook.
45). Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan -Smt. Remya Parameswar Iyer, PGT Biotechnology,Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara,
Kamrup Metropolitan, Guwahati, Assam
Smt. Iyer strives to ensure that
every child must make progress imbibed with human values and skills necessary
for 21st century. She developed a new and modern biotechnology lab in her
school. Her input has been crucial in attracting children to take up the
subject.
46). C.I.S.C.E. Smt. Radhika Dalvie Principal Wisdom World School,
Hadapsar, Kumar Picasso, Pune, Maharashtra
As a principal, Smt Radhika
Dalvie has been involved in establishing systems, building infrastructure and
teacher training to provide holistic education to prepare global citizens out
of her students. With emphasis on "value based education", her
goal is to create sensitive, disciplined and responsible individuals.
Significantly, she has also rescued and rehabilitated many abandoned children
during the last 7 years and created a safe home for them
