Let’s Understand the new Photovoltaic Cells.
In the current technology of solar cells, the researchers try to develop ever-better materials for solar cells by adjusting the possible variables to improve performance, including material type, thickness, and geometric arrangement. Developing new solar cells has generally been a hard process of making small changes to one of these parameters at a time. While computational simulators have made it possible to evaluate such changes without having to actually build each new variation for testing, the process remains slow.
The researchers at MIT, in collaboration with scientists of Google Brain have developed a new system called differentiable solar cell simulator which makes it possible not only to evaluate one proposed design at a time, but to provide information about which changes will provide the desired improvements. This could greatly increase the rate for the discovery of new, improved configurations with better results. A better predictor helps the researcher to move through the right direction without waste of time. Researchers developed a tool that will enable other researchers to discover more quickly the higher performance devices. It is said by experts that the new discovery tends to decrease the number of times that the researcher needs to run a simulator to give quicker access to a right response.
