KLAY’s IECED launches its Basic Preschool Training Program

The Institute of Early Childhood Education & Development (IECED) – the teacher training arm of KLAY Preschools and Daycare, launches its Basic Preschool Training (BPT) Program to train aspiring preschool teachers to kick start their career in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Set to begin on 5 April 2021, the program delivers the latest research-based curriculum and tools required to start one’s career in Early Childhood Education.

Meant for fresh graduates, mothers looking to break into the workforce, or just about anyone with a keen interest in the early childhood space, the program provides a robust introduction of preschool functioning, classroom routines, and a comprehensive overview of a teacher’s responsibilities. The program consists of distinct modules focusing on topics including:

●    Preschool teacher’s journey
●    Best practices in early years
●    Assessment tools and techniques
●    Family-school partnership
●    Teaching virtual classrooms

In addition to the above, the curriculum also has a module on health and safety which will serve as a guideline for participants to understand how they can ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment for the children and handle emergencies in the current context. The course also includes First Aid and CPR training. The program curriculum has been seamlessly tried and tested on children in the KLAY classrooms for over 12 years and continuously tweaked based on feedback.

Delivered online, the program’s highlight is its faculty who adopt an interactive and practical approach to impart the course curriculum in the simplest manner. This makes the program accessible to those who have no background in ECCE but have the passion to pursue a career in the field.

Speaking on the program launch, Meghna Yadav, Head Training and Development, KLAY said, “The program has been curated keeping in mind the skills that are required of preschool teachers in the new normal. It is designed to help participants get a deeper understanding of curriculum implementation and assessment in early years education. We came up with an introductory level course to encourage more professionals to think of teaching as a career – it does not require intensive time or resource investment but is still comprehensive and gives them a view of what to expect in the classrooms. Preschool education gives aspirants a chance to shape young minds from an early age and its impact is phenomenal.”

The participants will be evaluated based on attendance, participation, assignments and written examination. Available at a discounted price of INR 9,999 (early bird registrations), the course will span for the duration of 5 weeks (60 hours) with 2 hours of coursework on weekdays and practical assignments to take home. IECED started offering teacher training and upskilling programs to cover diverse requirements in the ECCE sector in 2018. Over 2000 early years’ educators have been trained so far and over 60% have been offered a job opportunity. In 2020 alone, the institute trained over 300 teachers online during the pandemic.
