Kindergarten to be Free in Victoria State
Kindergarten education will be free in the State of Victoria in Australia under a $169.6 mn funding boost. Subsidies will also be offered to early childhood services providing funded kindergarten programme. The free tuition will enable 100,000 families to save $2000 per child enrolled in a funded kindergarten programme. Premier Daniel Andrews has said the funding boost was aimed to support working families, particularly women, to return to work. The Victorian Government had also invested $81.6 mn into a ‘massive expansion’ of before and after school care, which will see an increase in the availability of programmes. The funding will help establish new services and support for costs including equipment, setup and administration, facility upgrades and transport.
