IIT’s Face Mask Gives a Boost to Textile Industry
The IIT Delhi startup ETEX which developed the KAWACH face mask has scaled up its production and provided 2000 jobs for the textile industry during the lockdown period. The design team was led by Prof Bipin Kumar of Dept of Textile and Fibre Engineering. It is a multi-layered product and provides 98% Filtration protection against 3 μm (micron) and 90% against 0.3 μm (micron). Ultra-soft fibrous lightweight material (<15 g) and advanced knitting technology have been used to give extra comfort to the wearer, 3D fit design on par with N95, allowing maximum face covering for protection. The mask was also tested and approved by the NABL accredited lab using international standards. The project has also empowered differently-abled and under privileged people and self help groups.
