IIT Kanpur to Have Medical College

The Indian Institute of Kanpur, is planning to set up a super specialty hospital and medical college at the campus. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 800 crore. The hospital will be constructed in the 20 acre land on the institute premises. The proposal has been approved by the institute’s board and a detailed project plan will be submitted to Ministry of Human Resources Development. The expert committee,which is preparing the project plan, iskeen on following the pattern of international universities that have different schools of various disciplines. At IIT Kanpur, the department of Biomedical engineering is strong and having a medical division is expected to strengthen the research in engineering and medicine.The institute is envisaged to offer integrated programmes in engineering and medicine once the medical unit becomes functional.
