Women have to deal with a variety of situations in daily life that require negotiation skills and the three challenges they face are with respect to balancing self-advocacy and communality, managing difficult emotions and overcoming interpersonal resistance.
According to a study reported in Harvard Business Review, women were reluctant to self advocate for their career advancement as they didn't have the confidence to ask. Women who initiate such dialogues are seen to be pushy, unlikeable or undesirable team members. They also reported feeling anxious, worried and reluctant before starting a negotiation. Before starting a negotiation, women should reduce participatory anxiety and prepare yourself with additional information. Women also need to overcome interpersonal resistance such as horrow or surprise from managers or a manager missing a scheduled negotiation.
