Girls and Boys Equal in Maths

Teacher Insights

Girls and Boys have equal abilities when it comes to learning maths, according to a new research done by Jessica Cantlon at Carnegie Mellon University. The research team comprehensively examined the brain development of young boys and girls. Cantlon and her team did the first neuro imaging study to evaluate biological gender differences in math aptitude among young children. Functional MRI was used to measure the brain activity in 104 young children aged 3 to 10 years of which 55 were girls. The brain activity was observed while they were watching an educational video covering early math topics like counting and addition.
