FSSAI to Impose Curbs on Promoting Unhealthy Products in School Premises
The Food Safety and Standards
Authority of India (FSSIA) has proposed to impose curbs on advertising
promotion and endorsement of of food products that are unhealthy in school
premises and within 50-meter radius of school. The earlier directive put curbs
on availability of such foods in school canteens.
According to Pawan Kumar Agarwal, CEO of FSSAI, draft regulations on healthy diets for school children is ready and soon to be implemented. He has sought the co-operation of the education industry in getting the children eat the right food.
The campaign to eat healthy food launched by FSSAI will not become a mass movement unless integrate it in the school systems, he added while inaugurating an ASSOCHAM National Symposium on School Healthcare in New Delhi.
