Emotional Tears Boost Immunity

Emotional tears unlike tears caused by irritants can assist our immune system, according to researchers at Macquarie University. Emotional tears may include higher levels of adrenocorticotropic hormones (linked to stress), prolactin (linked to maternal behavior) and pain killer called leucine enkephalin. It may help our body maintain homoeostasis, a degree of physical and emotional stability, according to Dr Philippe Gilchrist, senior lecturer at Department of Psychology at Macquarie University. .Some may cry more than others due to differences in personality (influenced by both genes and the environment),
social and physical context, sex and gender, and/or genetic differences (and even the expression of these can be influenced by the environment).Do we cry more as we age? It's possible that hormonal changes, such as changes in testosterone associated with ageing, might lead to aging men being more
emotional.
