Brazil Debuts Master's Degree in Cryptocurrency

International Edu News

Brazil: Brazil's Fundação Getulio Vargas, or FGV, is offering the world's first master's degree in crypto-finance.  In an article in the Coin Telegraph, FGV's crypto-finance program coordinator Ricardo Rochman said, "It is a market with a profound lack of people with expertise. Cryptofinance has economic and financial fundamentals that are worth discussing, researching, and [being] taught."

The new program arrives within a larger national moment in Brazil's vision for higher education: encompassing digital currencies and blockchain.

FGV created the new program with inspiration from other internationally renowned universities and will offer in-depth courses in cryptocurrency, blockchain, and smart contract.

FGV is not the only school in Brazil to embrace the idea. The Faculty of Economics and Administration of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) has included courses that explain the concepts, too.

Students are also working to create materials. A group of 23 students in Sao Paolo has created a group called Blockchain Insper, a group whose purpose is to develop new technologies and business models within the crytpo-world. They've partnered with five blockchain companies and work with mentors at each.
