Brain Circuit That Causes Compulsive Drinking

The
brain circuit that causes compulsive drinking has been identified in a mouse
model developed by Cody Siciliano of Vanderbilt University and neuroscientist
Kay Tye of the Salk Institute. The activity in the neural circuit can predict which
mice will go on a drinking spree despite the negative consequencesweeks in
advance.Identifying a brain-based 'bio-marker' for susceptibility to compulsive
drinking, the study reveals a potential new target for the development of
therapeutics for the Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), and possibly for the substance use disorders in general.
