Online STEM Learning Effective

Teacher Insights

Online Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) were as effective as traditional classroom learning but can be done at a fraction of cost. A Cornell University study tracked more than 300 students in Russia, where top universities standardize online classes for use by institutions with fewer resources. It has important implications for the teaching of science, technology, engineering and math -- skills that are in high demand by the international workforce, said Rene Kizilcec, assistant professor of information science at Cornell University. Online STEM Learning can address the twin problems of shortage of highly skilled professionals required in industry and keep costs low for educational institutions to train them.  China, Russia and India have launched online learning in leading universities that other institutions can integrate into their own curricula for a small fee.
